As many of MISO’s members and partners likely recognize, public certificate services are a key piece of keeping energy market applications secure and accessible only to those who should be using themDuring a recent review of public certificate services providers, MISO identified opportunities to bring our organization into better alignment with NAESB guidelines. Additionally, changes in the public Certificate Authority landscape have caused MISO to evaluate the vendors and certificates our systems accept.

Therefore, starting 5/28/2025, MISO will accept NAESB certificates from OATI, GlobalSign (https://shop.globalsign.com/en/digital-certificates-for-naesb), and SSL.com (https://www.ssl.com/certificates/naesb-client-certificates/). MISO has long accepted certificates provided by OATI, so participants who already use OATI certificates will be unaffected by this change. GlobalSign and SSL.com are NAESB-certified Certificate Authorities with strong histories of adherence to CA/Browser Forum requirements.

As a result of these changes, starting 6/25/2025, MISO will no longer support new certificates from Entrust (Sectigo) or IdenTrust. Participants who currently use certificates provided by Entrust or IdenTrust will not be expected to procure new certificates from one of the supported vendors until renewal. The end of support for Entrust and IdenTrust will be 6/25/2026. We hope this will give organizations sufficient time to migrate to the new vendors in a manner that will not impact access to MISO applications.
